St. Peter's Community Club

Return to the Nicolas Denys Museum

Dedicated to Village Improvement

The club was organized on October 30, 1953 to furnish the new school. At that time the district was financially responsible for the building and furnishing.

After the school opened, for years the club had the Tea for the Grads and their parents and also paid for the band at the Prom. The community club gives $100.00 to a graduating student from the village who has the highest average.

The club went on to organize garbage collection and purchase the first fire equipment ( an old truck with a water tank ). The club had numerous fund rasing activities for the water works. For many years a Christmas Tree was lit in the village with Mr . and Mrs. Santa bringing treats for the children.

Battery Park took years of meetings, letters and furnishing before finally opening in 1967.

The club organized the local '67 celebration and also the '69 centennial celebrations.

In 1967 after more hard work and with the Municipality and Federal Government, the Nicolas Denys Museum was opened and has been the pride and responsibility of the community ever since.

Following letters to the Federal government they built a much needed walking addition to the Canal Bridge.

After a door to door campaign gathering names for a petition and many letters and meetings for sidewalks, the sidewalks became a reality.

The club with the village commission has given historical names to the streets of the village as well as name the senior apartments.

The community club responds to help the village whenever called on to do so!
