ST. PATRICK'S MUSEUM
87 Esplanade,
Sydney,
Summer Hours St. Patrick's Church was erected originally as a Roman Catholic Church in 1828. The Church stands on the original site of an early wooden edifice which was built for the Pioneers in 1805. The congregation came from places such as North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Bras d'Or, Low Point, and Louisbourg. In 1850 a balcony was added to accommodate the rising population of the Church. Due to an increasing congregation, George St. became home to a new church, Sacred Heart. Lebanese immigrants worshipped at St. Patrick's until 1950. The Ancient Order of Hibernians took it over until 1960 or so. The Old Sydney Society began to restore St. Patrick's in 1966, and it now serves as a museum, displaying artifacts from early Sydney and area.
