Burials in the Chapel - There are 5 people buried in the Chapel. They include Governor de Forant, Commandant du Quesnel, Captain des Gannes, and the Duc d'Anville. The fifth person buried there is a child, we do not know how she got there or why.
We are uncertain whether stone inscriptions or bronze plaques would have been on the walls. It is difficult to say what exact method would have been used to lift the floor for the burials (i.e., cut the floorboards and replace them?)
Statues in the Chapel - The statues in the Chapelle St. Louis are polychrome - that is, they are painted wood (mixed media). They are 18th century. The Virgin and child, and the statue of St. Roch have been stabilized and painted in the conservation lab in Ottawa.
